Behind the Blue Sky is a short film created by Brandt Miller and Sean Devaney for the first ever exhibition in Mongolia on the marginalized and oppressed LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community of the country. The film depicts the tragic love story of two Mongolian boys - one from the city of Ulaanbaatar and the other, a herder from the countryside.
To ensure the safety of the actors, their faces are covered with traditional blue scarves called khadag. The khadag is traditionally used in Mongolia to cover the face of the deceased. Behind the Blue Sky features an original score by renowned Mongolian folk rock band, Altan Urag and was displayed in the Mongolian Museum of Modern Art in Ulaanbaatar in July 2009.
