Summary: Tadashi, in his last year of high school, is secretly in love with his classmate Kota, but dares not tell him about it. One summer day, he was picked on by his classmates calling him "Fag!" which shooed Kota away from him. Deeply hurt and depressed, Tadashi spotted on the train a gay couple - Hiroki and Shinji - who were chatting so happily that he followed the two men and before he knew it...
------------------------
Reviews: No matter the age, falling in love remains always a first time. But the very first time, this shows Hatsu-koi realistically in a fresh and unpretentious way, is especially full of traps and insecurities and might imprint the pattern for life: it is alike exiting and dangerous. The adventures of young Tadashi is of global validity, touching themes like mobbing, homo marriage and different shades of sexual behaviour, with the specific taste of today’s Japanese environment young gay people find themselves in.

LUIS CABALLERO HOLGUIN.

Caballero, Luis (1943-1995).
Luis Caballero Holguín, one of the most significant Latin American painters of the second half of the twentieth century, considered his homosexuality a fundamental component of his artistic expression. He frequently described semen as his most important artistic medium.
For the last twenty-five years of Caballero's life, the nude male figure was his only subject. In his turbulent, large-scale compositions, he expressed the interaction of sensuality with aggression and even death.
Early Years and Education
Born on August 27, 1943 in Bogotá, Colombia, Caballero was raised in a strict and conservative Catholic household. However, from an early age, he found consolation in sacred images, and he devised powerful erotic fantasies about the beautiful figures of Christ and male saints displayed in the churches of Bogotá. In the 1970s, recollections of these childhood musings helped to inspire his mature style and subject matter.
From 1961 to 1962, Caballero studied art at the Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá. Among the teachers there, he was most strongly influenced by the Spanish-born artist Juan Antonio Roda (1921-2003), who had moved to Colombia in 1955. In the Delirium of Dead Nuns, an etching series of 1974, and other psychologically complex depictions of female figures, Roda equated the repression of sexuality with death and martyrdom.
From 1963 to 1964, Caballero completed his formal artistic training in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. In Paris, Caballero felt liberated by the widespread acceptance of homosexuality and the pervasive mood of sexual freedom. In this environment, he began indulging his seemingly inexhaustible sexual appetites with many anonymous sexual encounters, as he would do for most of the rest of his life.
Career in Colombia, 1965-1969
Returning to Bogotá in 1965, he had difficulty supporting himself as an artist. In 1967, he accepted a position, which he held until 1969, as instructor of painting and drawing at the Universidad de los Andes. Producing art work at a furious pace during this time, Caballero experimented with many of the styles then popular in North America and Europe.
Thus, he imitated the styles of various prominent international painters, including Richard Hamilton, Allen Jones, Willem DeKooning, and Francis Bacon, among many others. Of these, the only artist who would exert an enduring influence was Bacon, whose explorations of the interaction of desire and violence anticipate Caballero's mature works.
Although he produced occasional abstract pieces, most of his works from this period were representational pieces, featuring large-scale female or androgynous figures. In 1968, he won First Prize at the First Ibero-American Biennal of Medellin (Colombia) for Cámara del amor (Chamber of Love), executed in mixed media on eighteen canvas panels. Displayed together, the panels created a cubic space, which broke with the usual two dimensionality of painting. On these panels, he depicted stylized female figures in various poses against flat backdrops.
Transformation of His Art in Paris
Feeling oppressed by the pervasive homophobia of Colombia, Caballero emigrated in 1969 to Paris, where he lived until 1995. In 1970, he made an intensive study of the works of Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Delacroix, Gericault, and other leading artists of the sixteenth through nineteenth centuries; he was particularly interested in art that featured energetically posed nude male figures engaged in heroic actions. According to Caballero's own accounts, this period of study was instrumental in enabling him to transform both his subject matter and his manner of painting and to define his own distinctive mode of artistic expression.
Abandoning the goal of producing work that would correspond with currently fashionable modernist and post-modernist styles, he resolved to create original paintings that would embody many of the ideals of the "Old Masters" without imitating their specific techniques or compositions. From this point forward, he devoted himself to large-scale paintings and drawings of nude male figures, shown in constantly varied poses and from diverse vantage points.
Bodies are sometimes reduced to torsos--with limbs cut off, entirely or partially; however, even Caballero's limbless torsos are energized by flexed musculature. Facial features are vaguely defined, and many of his figures lack heads. Sometimes, only a single figure is shown, but, more often, two or more figures are represented in ambiguous interactions with one another. To discourage literal narrative interpretations, he referred to all his images of nude men as Sin título (Untitled).
Although Cabellero emphasized that he found inspiration in older European art, his techniques are distinctly contemporary in feeling. He emphatically rejected conventional distinctions among pictorial media and freely combined oil painting, watercolor, charcoal drawing, and ink washes in images created on paper or canvas. Avoiding the impression of precise outlines, he used overlapping lines of varying thicknesses to suggest the contours of figures without precisely defining them. The movements of muscles are evoked by jagged lines and by areas of dark wash, splashed across the torsos. Prevalent brownish and grayish tonalities are set off by seemingly random splotches of red and blue.
Rather than creating effects of conventional beauty, Caballero sought to convey the intense eroticism of aggressively masculine figures and to reveal the interaction of violence and sensuality. Often reaching from outside the picture area, hands press into the flesh of the torsos in a way that is at once tender and brutal. Sometimes he included pieces of rope and cloth, which call attention to parts of the anatomy and which imply bondage that could be intended playfully or hostilely.
Despite the pervasive sexual energy of Caballero's works, copulation is seldom shown, although it is occasionally implied by the organization of the bodies (for instance, by the placement of one figure directly behind another). However, rather than representing moments of sexual climax, Caballero generally preferred to evoke either frenzied foreplay or the lassitude following erotic satiation.
Fascinated by accounts of Christian martyrs who ecstatically died for the love of Jesus, Caballero sought to infuse his depictions of men with the mystical intensity of Catholic religious paintings. To emphasize the parallels with traditional Catholic imagery, Caballero frequently created works in the triptych (that is, three panels) format, widely used for altarpieces in the Renaissance and Baroque eras. In a large (untitled) triptych, now in the Galería Garcés Velázquez y Beatriz Caballero, Bogotá (total measurements of 76 ¾ [height] x 153 ½ inches; 195 x 390 cm.), Caballero showed six figures, who seem to have fallen one over the other in contorted poses. It is unclear whether these men have just endured martyrdom or if they simply have succumbed to exhaustion following passionate lovemaking. Flashes of lightening intensify the dramatic power of this scene.
Final Years
By around 1990, Caballero's work had become increasingly sinister and dark, both in mood and in physical appearance. By defining figures primarily with harsh, angular lines, Caballero also intensified the aggressive mood of his compositions. He had long favored brownish and grayish tonalities, but he now restricted these to the most somber ranges, relieving them only by splotches of blood red. Although still ambiguous, the interactions of the figures in the later works seem more explicitly brutal and less erotically suggestive than in the earlier images.
Thus far, virtually all commentators have related this dramatic shift to an increasing preoccupation with war and other manifestations of political violence. However, Caballero never revealed any strong involvement with social issues other than freedom of sexual expression. Therefore, it seems more likely that the transformation in his work is connected with the deterioration of his health as a result of AIDS.
In 1995, Caballero returned to Bogotá, and he died there on June 19, 1995. The following year, the city of Bogotá established in his memory the Premio Luis Caballero, a major artistic prize, based on a competition among prominent Latin American artists, thirty-five years and older.
Although Caballero felt compelled to move to France in order to express his homosexuality, he is respected in his native country as one of the most important Colombian artists of all time. During the 1990s, major retrospectives of his achievements in Bogotá (for example, at the Luis Angel Arango Library, 1995, and National Museum, 1997) encouraged frank public discussion of the homoerotic aspects of his images. Undoubtedly, this stimulus to greater tolerance for sexual diversity would have pleased the artist, who conveyed so eloquently the profound interactions of sensuality with other aspects of experience.

Breaking: Prop. 8 Overturned
By Advocate.com Editors

Federal judge Vaughn Walker rules California's gay marriage ban is unconstitutional because it violates "equal protection rights."
In a highly anticipated decision with potentially far-reaching implications in the national battle over gay marriage, a federal judge has struck down California's Proposition 8.
U.S. district judge Vaughn R. Walker struck down the ballot measure as unconstitutional under both equal protection and due process clauses in a 136-page opinion, nearly seven months after an unprecedented trial over gay marriage began in his San Francisco courtroom.
"Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license," Walker wrote.
"Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples. Because California has no interest in discriminating against gay men and lesbians, and because Proposition 8 prevents California from fulfilling its constitutional obligation to provide marriages on an equal basis, the court concludes that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional," Walker wrote.
Walker issued a stay of the judgment, however, pending a defendant's motion to stay pending appeal filed on Tuesday prior to the decision—a rare premature maneuver, legal experts said.
"Absent a stay, same-sex marriages could begin taking place immediately after the Court issues its judgment," attorney Charles J. Cooper wrote in a letter to Walker. "As we explain in our stay motion, another purported window of same-sex marriage in California would cause irreparable harm."
The decision was released on the court website shortly after 2 p.m., though a leaked version went viral on the Internet shortly after 1 p.m. Pacific time. A link to the decision is available here.
Lead attorneys Theodore B. Olson and David Boies, who brought the case last year on behalf of a gay male couple in Burbank and a lesbian couple in Berkeley who were denied marriage licenses, spoke shortly afterwards outside the federal courthouse in San Francisco with Chad Griffin, founder and co-president of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which organized and aided in the finance of the suit.
"Any denial of freedom to anyone undermines the principles on which this country was founded," Griffin said.
The legal team and plaintiffs Kristin Perry, Sandy Stier, Paul Katami, and Jeff Zarrillo are scheduled to attend a public event Wednesday evening in West Hollywood (gay rights activists have planned multiple Wednesday rallies, both in California and elsewhere in the country: Click here for a list of events).
Legal observers had widely expected Walker to rule Prop. 8 unconstitutional, though an ultimate favorable decision by the U.S. Supreme Court remains uncertain, should the court eventually take the case.
Anti-gay-marriage forces, perhaps already sensing defeat at the district level, had filed a motion on Tuesday to stay the ruling pending appeal to the U.S. court of appeals for the ninth circuit — a rare premature maneuver, legal experts said.
"Absent a stay, same-sex marriages could begin taking place immediately after the Court issues its judgment," attorney Charles J. Cooper wrote in a letter to Walker. "As we explain in our stay motion, another purported window of same-sex marriage in California would cause irreparable harm."
The Olson-Boies legal team immediately opposed the motion in a Wednesday morning letter to the court.

White House Statement On Proposition 8

“The President has spoken out in opposition to Proposition 8 because it is divisive and discriminatory. He will continue to promote equality for LGBT Americans.”
