HOME
Between 1998 and 2005, filmmaker Broderick Fox travelled between Berlin and Los Angeles with his German partner, on an autobiographical search for home and for himself, shooting home movies all the while.
Years later, Fox has pulled these tapes and reels of footage out of a drawer, compelled to create HOME in the wake of the 2008 passage of Proposition 8 in California, a voter referendum banning recognition of gay marriage.
The resulting piece is an ode to Berlin, a coming of age story, a tribute to first love, and a call for social justice in equal parts.
HOME was written, shot, produced, and edited by Fox, all for under $200, underscoring that complex, emotional work can be made without access to specialized technologies or professional budgets.
HOME premiered as part of the Globians World & Culture Documentary Film Festival in Berlin in August, 2009.
Written, produced, directed, shot, and edited by Broderick Fox. Original score composed and performed by Michael Cohen.
