January 10 marks another event, spear-headed by Join the Impact, to draw LGBT rights advocates into the streets to support equal rights. Today, nationwide rallies are happening to call on the Obama administration to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the archaic act signed in 1996 by President Clinton that offers up a federal definition of marriage (hint: it's not of the same-sex kind).
Rallies are happening across the country today. You can find a rally today in your own community by going to Join the Impact's "Quick Link States" page. Organizers are also asking LGBTQ folks (and straight allies) to send a letter to the Obama administration explaining just why DOMA needs to be repealed. The text of the letter is after the jump. You can also print out a copy of the letter by clicking here.
